A subwoofer that offers a neutral and accurate sound will be adequate for both music and cinema use. Many people tend to divide subwoofers into two kinds: music subwoofers and cinema subwoofers. We think this is wrong. As explained elsewhere in our sound philosophy itīs our belief that sound can only be compared with reality, and this applies for both music and cinema. Magazines can sometimes rate a subwoofer differently, and write things like "Good sound for cinema but not as good for music". In these cases we think a subjective judgement has been made, which is not entirely correct or fair.
However, generally speaking we can agree that a subwoofer with a deep and darker character may be better tuned for cinema use, and a "ligher" subwoofer with a rapid response might be the better choise for music, but this is still a subjective judgement which canīt be rated properly. Our conclusion is that if one is going to divide the rating into these two segments itīs very important to also state a reference for both categories.
We think the best solution is to construct the subwoofer in a way that makes it possible to alter the character in as many ways as possible. Then the subwoofer can be adapted to fit the desired task. Most of our models offer this oppurtunity through the Room Tuning concept.
